What B16 did on Feb 11, 2013 was uncanonical, since the Code of Canon Law says nothing about a renunciation of ministry. The act is theologically incapable of signifying the renunciation of the papacy, which is not a ministry but an office, dignity and honor as per Boniface VIII.

1. That errs in confusing the act of papal resignation to be in the genus of private acts of religion, when it is rather in the genus of public acts of law.
